Straight answer

Why Consider REC Alpha Pure-RX (460W)?

The REC Alpha Pure-RX (460W) uses 88 half-cut heterojunction cells and delivers 22.1% module efficiency. Its power warranty specifies 92% retention at year 25. Product and labor terms differ between standard coverage and conditional REC ProTrust coverage.

Output, Temperature and Long-Term Planning

460W from Each Module

At the specified 460W power bin, the Alpha Pure-RX combines 22.1% efficiency with a 20.5W-per-square-foot power density. That helps you compare roof use, but setbacks, orientation and module dimensions still decide how much capacity belongs on your home.

Heterojunction Cell Technology

REC uses 88 half-cut heterojunction cells in this model. Its documented -0.24% per degree temperature coefficient is a useful design input for warm operating conditions, not a guarantee of the same wattage through every Florida afternoon.

92% Power at Year 25

The manufacturer power warranty sets a 92% threshold at year 25, following the specified degradation schedule. That commitment concerns module performance under warranty testing; it is separate from product defects, installation workmanship and ongoing maintenance.

Start with the Roof Area You Can Actually Use

High-output panels become especially interesting when the available roof area is constrained by hips, valleys, vents or shading. The REC Alpha Pure-RX is 68.0 inches long and 48.1 inches wide, so it is not interchangeable with a narrower module on a layout drawing. We test the actual dimensions against usable roof planes and required access paths. A higher wattage per panel can reduce panel count for a similar capacity, but it does not automatically guarantee that the same roof holds a larger system.

For a Florida homeowner choosing between panel options, the right question is how much useful generation the proposed layout can deliver without compromising installation quality. We consider roof condition, available sunlight and the electrical design alongside module efficiency. On metal and tile roofs, attachment and waterproofing details must suit the covering and structure. If the roof needs work first, it is better to address that before committing to a panel layout that will later need to be removed.

Why the Temperature Coefficient Matters

Solar cells warm up when exposed to sunlight, and hotter cells generally deliver less power than at the reference testing temperature. The REC sheet lists a maximum power temperature coefficient of -0.24% per degree K, equivalent to the same change per degree C. It describes the relative power change with cell temperature under comparable conditions. It should not be confused with ambient air temperature or used by itself to predict an annual energy total.

Temperature, ventilation, orientation and shading all influence the system. A strong specification cannot recover roof area in deep shade. We evaluate the whole design.

Match the Module to the Electrical Design

The 460W model lists a maximum power current of 8.38A, an open circuit voltage of 65.3V and a short circuit current of 8.88A at standard test conditions. Those figures matter when selecting an inverter and arranging the circuit. They are not a homeowner wiring guide: the design must also account for temperature limits, circuit protection and the manufacturer requirements of every connected component.

If you want storage, the REC panel does not need to share a brand name with the battery. We assess the appropriate inverter or AC-coupled configuration and confirm how the system will operate during grid interruptions. Panels alone do not provide household outage backup. A battery proposal should explain usable storage, supported loads and controls separately from the array capacity. This separation makes it easier to compare a panel-only project with a solar-plus-Powerwall design.

Standard REC Coverage vs. ProTrust

Power25 years25 years
LaborNot included25 years for systems below 25 kW; 10 years for systems from 25 to 500 kW
Power-retention threshold92% at year 2592% at year 25

ProTrust requires installation by a REC Certified Solar Professional and registration. We do not promise eligibility, labor reimbursement or a product extension until the project and registration requirements are confirmed.

Read the Warranty as Three Separate Promises

The supplied REC documents distinguish product, power and labor coverage. Standard coverage gives 20 years for the product and 25 years for power, without labor. ProTrust changes product and labor benefits when its requirements are satisfied. The labor term depends on system size, and registration is part of the qualification process. A statement such as full warranty coverage is therefore incomplete unless it identifies which coverage applies to your project.

The power schedule specifies 98% in the first year and a 0.25% annual degradation allowance thereafter, reaching 92% at year 25. That threshold is not a guarantee of a particular electricity bill. Coastal Energy installation workmanship and leak coverage is separate, lasting five years from activation and transferable under its written terms. Neither that installation warranty nor REC product coverage should be presented as automatic protection for every maintenance need or storm-related event.

Compare the Whole Proposal Before Choosing REC

The Alpha Pure-RX is one option in a designed installation, not a fixed-price package. The final quote reflects the number of modules, roof access, mounting details, inverter selection, permitting and any electrical or battery work. We do not invent a special REC module price or assume that choosing a higher-output panel automatically saves money. Ask for the exact equipment schedule and a clear explanation of what is included.

Compare REC, Trina and Tesla using the same property, electricity history and future loads. Panel count and roof use may change. The broader REC installation page addresses installer support; this page focuses on Alpha Pure-RX (460W). Financing remains separate, with no expired residential federal tax credit assumed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Every REC Alpha Pure-RX Panel 460W?

No. The supplied family sheet lists multiple power bins. This page covers the 460W module specifically, with 22.1% efficiency. Check the equipment schedule rather than assuming all Alpha Pure-RX modules carry the same rating.

Does 92% Retention Mean My Bill Will Stay the Same?

No. The percentage is a warranted module power threshold at year 25. Utility rates, household use, weather, shading and system operation can change independently. We do not turn the retention figure into a guaranteed bill or savings amount.

How Do I Know Whether the REC Layout Is Better for My Home?

Compare the actual panel count, usable roof space and modeled production for the same energy goal. A higher per-panel rating can be useful, but fit, shading and inverter design may change which option makes the most sense.

Does REC ProTrust Automatically Include 25 Years of Labor?

No. ProTrust requires qualifying certified installation and registration. For eligible systems below 25 kW the listed labor term is 25 years; for 25 to 500 kW it is 10 years. Standard warranty coverage has no labor benefit.

Can REC Panels Work on a Metal or Tile Roof?

They can be evaluated for either roof type. The layout, mounting method, roof condition and structural plan must be approved for your property. The panel specification alone does not establish the wind rating of the finished array.
