Straight answer

What Is the Tesla T420S (420W) Panel?

The Tesla T420S is a 420W module with 19.3% efficiency, 144 cells and a Zep Groove frame. The supplied sheet specifies separate 25-year materials and power warranties. It is not the newer Tesla TSP-420 with 18 power zones.

A Tesla System Starts with the Right Model

420W Module Output

The T420S column specifies 420W at standard test conditions and 19.3% module efficiency. The T425S and T430S appear in the same family sheet, but their ratings must not be substituted for the module listed on your installation proposal.

Zep Groove Frame

The manufacturer datasheet identifies a Zep Groove frame. That detail belongs to this module family. Roof attachments, array spacing and visual finishing still need their own approved design; we do not apply newer Tesla mounting claims automatically.

Optional Powerwall Integration

Solar generation can be planned alongside a Tesla Powerwall and home charging. The panel is the energy source, not the backup controller. The inverter, battery and operating configuration determine the app experience and what happens when the grid fails.

T420S Is Not the Newer Tesla TSP-420

Tesla has sold more than one panel with a 420W rating. This page is specifically about T420S, the model identified in the supplied T420S, T425S and T430S module datasheet. That document lists a 144-cell arrangement and the electrical values shown below. A shared wattage does not make two product generations interchangeable, particularly when their cell architecture, mounting hardware or marketing claims differ.

The separate Tesla brochure supplied for this project describes 18 power zones, a feature confirmed in official documentation for newer TSP-415 and TSP-420 panels. The T420S sheet does not make that claim. We therefore do not promise 18-zone shade behavior or treat the newer brochure as proof of T420S construction. Your proposal should name the exact module rather than simply saying Tesla (420W), so you know which specifications and warranty documents apply.

Design the Array Around Your Florida Roof

The T420S is 2094 mm long and 1038 mm wide, with a listed weight of 25.3 kg. Its length and orientation can influence how neatly it fits around hips, roof edges and obstructions. A tile or metal roof with ample area may offer several layout choices, while a more segmented roof needs careful planning. We map the real module footprint rather than estimating panel count from square footage alone.

Florida installation requirements concern the completed array, not simply the brand printed on the module. Attachment locations, structural review, roof waterproofing and local permitting must work together. The panel is not described here as hurricane-proof, and its product warranty is not represented as blanket storm insurance. If the roof needs repair or replacement, we review that work first so the solar installation does not create an avoidable removal-and-reinstallation project later.

Panels Generate Energy; Powerwall Stores It

A Tesla-branded panel does not provide home backup on its own. In a conventional grid-connected arrangement, solar production shuts down during a grid interruption unless the system has the equipment needed to operate safely in backup mode. Adding a Powerwall changes the system design, supported loads and controls. Battery sizing should follow your backup priorities, rather than being inferred from a panel logo or total array wattage.

Powerwall 3 can be evaluated with an appropriate new solar design or an AC-coupled existing array. The selected configuration determines inverter requirements and monitoring. If you also want EV charging, we consider vehicle charging loads alongside the household energy history. Generation, storage and charging can be planned as a coordinated project, but their benefits are distinct. We do not promise uninterrupted whole-home operation or a specific runtime without assessing the actual loads and battery arrangement.

Tesla Module Coverage, Clearly Separated

CoverageTerm or ThresholdScope
Materials and processing25 yearsManufacturer module coverage, subject to the applicable terms.
Linear power25 years2% first-year degradation allowance, then 0.54% annually; 85% retention at year 25.
Installation workmanship5 years from activationCoastal Energy workmanship and leak coverage; transferable under its written terms.

The module datasheet does not establish blanket labor reimbursement, battery coverage or installation coverage. Separate equipment and installation documents govern those items.

What the Power Warranty Does and Does Not Say

The supplied Tesla sheet gives a 25-year materials and processing warranty and an additional 25-year linear power warranty. These are two different obligations. The power schedule allows 2% degradation in the first year and 0.54% annually afterward, with an 85% warranted threshold at year 25. That is a module performance commitment, not a guarantee of the same annual kilowatt-hours throughout the life of your installation.

A household bill also depends on usage, weather, shade, utility rules and how the system operates. Neither the retention percentage nor a Tesla app display creates a savings guarantee. Labor, removal, shipping and reinstallation should be checked in the applicable written claim terms instead of assumed from a coverage headline. We keep the installation warranty separate so you can see who is responsible for the module, the workmanship and any optional battery equipment.

Choose the System for Your Goals, Not a Logo

Compare T420S with REC (460W) and Trina (445W) on the same roof. Different dimensions and electrical characteristics can change panel count and inverter planning. Per-panel wattage alone cannot determine annual production, installation cost or the best fit for your property.

We provide a project-specific installed quote rather than inventing a retail T420S price. Equipment selection, roof access, engineering, electrical upgrades and optional storage all affect scope. Start with a recent bill and explain any planned changes in electricity use. The broader Tesla installation page remains the place to explore the brand-level installation process and ecosystem; this model page is the technical reference for the T420S module specifically.

Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the T420S Have 18 Power Zones?

The supplied T420S datasheet does not claim that feature. Official newer TSP-415 and TSP-420 documentation describes 18 power zones, but those are different models. This page does not transfer that claim to T420S.

Do I Need a Powerwall with Tesla Panels?

Not simply because of the panel brand. A panel-only design and a solar-plus-storage design have different purposes. If outage backup is important, the proposal must include appropriate battery equipment and controls and define the supported loads.

What Does the 25-Year Warranty Cover?

The sheet lists separate materials and processing and linear power warranties. The power threshold reaches 85% at year 25. Installation workmanship, battery equipment and any labor entitlement need their own applicable written terms.

Are T420S and TSP-420 the Same Panel?

No. Both names include a 420W rating, but they identify different Tesla panel generations. Check the model on the equipment schedule and use its own datasheet for cell construction, electrical requirements and mounting details.

Is T420S Currently Available for My Project?

Availability has not been independently verified. We will confirm the exact module being offered when preparing your proposal. If another Tesla model is proposed, its specifications and warranty documents should be reviewed instead of reusing this page.
